Summerfest Business Alliance Member Spotlight

1.) Tell Us Your Story!
Founded in 1887, Badger Mutual has proudly called Milwaukee home for over a century. Our mission is simple: to be there for our policyholders when it matters most—with heart, trust, and reliability. We specialize in personal and commercial insurance, with a niche in protecting bars, restaurants, and taverns.
If you’ve ever grabbed a bite at your favorite MKE spot or enjoyed a quick happy hour, there’s a chance that establishment is insured by Badger Mutual. These businesses are our bread and butter, and we’re honored to earn their trust. We pay it forward by supporting them whenever we can—because strong communities start with strong relationships. And we can’t resist a locally-made Old Fashioned.
And no different than our favorite eats at Summerfest, we have a secret sauce too… it’s our people. Like the best Milwaukeeans, they lead with understanding, heart, and a little (or a lotta) fun. Whether they’re working from our HQ in the Brewery District, visiting our independent partner agents across the seven states we serve (Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona, Nevada), or stopping by a Badger-insured business with friends and family, #BeingBadger is more than a job—it’s who they are.
At the end of the day, we are proud to call Milwaukee home—and even prouder to protect the people, families & businesses that make it feel like one.
2.) What does the future hold for your organization?
3.) How do you impact your community?
Our #BeingBadger culture of heart, compassion, and lending a hand extends far beyond the four walls of our HQ in Milwaukee.
In addition to corporate sponsorships and long-standing partnerships, our team comes together every Thursday to sell popcorn in our lobby – an initiative dubbed "Popcorn for a Purpose." This simple concept has become a powerful way for us to show up for our community and support local initiatives in a meaningful, tangible way. Through this effort, our employees have raised funds for several organizations, including Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, Milwaukee Diaper Mission, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Capuchin Community Services, Sojourner Family Peace Center, The Guest House, and many others.
For us, community impact isn’t just a campaign—it’s part of who we are. While our corporate sponsorships show that, it’s our employees who take it to heart to walk-the-walk that really drive home our impact.
4.) When was the first time you attended Summerfest? Do you have a favorite Summerfest memory?
When I was about 10 years old- (in the mid 70's) my parents took us kids to see Summerfest to see Johnny Cash on the main stage (prior to the Marcus Amphitheater). I remember sitting on bleachers, all on ground level, and there was a lot of mud and straw on the ground. I also remember that there was a circus!
5.) Which artist would you love to see on a Summerfest stage?
Kenny Wayne Shepard
6.) What else would you like to share about your experience with Summerfest and the Summerfest Business Alliance?
