Summerfest Business Alliance Member Spotlight

1.) Tell Us Your Story!
Mathnasium is a math-only learning center where we believe that “Confidence in Math is Confidence in Life”. We work with kids in Kindergarten through 12th grade who struggle with math, love math, or anywhere in between. We have locations all over the Greater Milwaukee area and have worked with thousands of families over the years. The one thing that always surprises people is that kids LOVE coming to Mathnasium, as we strive to make math FUN!
2.) Tell us about your organization’s accomplishments and what you’re most proud of as an employer in Wisconsin.
We are proud to employee a wide variety of instructors from top high school/college students to current teachers to retirees. We provide a role where you make a difference in people’s lives every day and will be proud to add it to your resume. The beauty of our business is that we can provide jobs at a part-time level, as well as a full-time career. Our current employment is over 100 strong and that’s a fun number to share!
3.) How do you impact your community?
The beauty of Mathnasium is that at our core we exist to directly impact our communities. We are supporting families dealing with stress of math homework at home, poor grades at school, or kids that find their math class way too easy. With that being said, we can be found at all sorts of community events, usually anything that involves families or events put on by schools. One particular way we get involved in our elementary schools is through an event called Math Night where we help bring parents and kids together through math games. We typically do 20+ Math Nights around the Milwaukee area throughout the school year. Also, every November we do our Month of Giving. We pick 2-3 local organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, or Feeding America, and our students donate their rewards cards towards one of their choice. It’s a big hit and fun to watch out Mathletes get involved!
4.) Why is it important to your organization to support Summerfest through the Summerfest Business Alliance and what are some of the unique ways in which you distribute/use your Summerfest tickets?
We got involved with the Summerfest Business Alliance for a few different reasons. Our initial goal was to get enough tickets to distribute to our employees as a perk, as we are always looking for ways to show our appreciation. We also used them as giveaways, either via social media or when a new family enrolled at Mathnasium, so there was a marketing effort behind this. As owners, we also enjoyed the Captain’s Deck, so we made sure to get enough tickets to enjoy these passes for a few of our favorite bands. We look forward to keeping up the tradition of being involved with the Summerfest Business Alliance for years to come!
5.) Favorite Summerfest Memories
I don’t quite remember my first Summerfest visit, but one of my favorite memories was having to skip a baseball game in high school to see Blink 182 on the big stage. New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio opened for them and our baseball coach couldn’t believe we’d miss a game for that. He shamed us in front of the whole team, but missing that game for those grass seats was totally worth it.
There are so many bands I’d like to see come to Summerfest. Manchester Orchestra or Death Cab for Cutie are two I’d like to see come back again.
6.) What else would you like to share about your experience with Summerfest and the Summerfest Business Alliance?
Thanks for making this a perk for small businesses. It’s a great opportunity for us to provide a fun perk to our employees and clients. We look forward to leveraging the networking events in the future as well!
